Which iPhones won’t get iOS 27 in 2026?
This year, Apple hasn’t removed any iPhone that was already compatible with iOS 26 from its update list.
That means older models including the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer) can still install iOS 27.
Older devices that don’t support iOS 27 include the iPhone XS and XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X and earlier models.
What happens if your iPhone doesn’t get iOS 27?
If your iPhone isn’t compatible with iOS 27, it won’t suddenly stop working. You can still use an older iPhone for everyday tasks such as calls, messaging, taking photos and browsing the web.
However, you won’t get the latest iOS 27 features, and over time some apps and services may require newer versions of iOS.
What’s new in iOS 27?
iOS 27 brings a range of updates across the iPhone, with Apple Intelligence playing an increasingly important role.
Apple has introduced new AI-powered tools across apps and experiences, including improvements to Photos, writing and productivity features, and Visual Intelligence. There are also further refinements to the Liquid Glass design introduced with iOS 26.
There is one important distinction for iPhone users in Ireland: Siri AI is not initially available on iOS in the European Union. While Apple is rolling out Siri AI in English elsewhere, Apple says the feature isn’t available on iPhone in the EU at launch. Other Apple Intelligence features are available in Ireland on supported devices, although individual features can vary by region and language.
Hardware matters too. Being able to install iOS 27 doesn’t mean your iPhone can use every Apple Intelligence feature. Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or newer.
So, for example, an iPhone 11 can run iOS 27, but it won’t have access to the full Apple Intelligence feature set.
Is iOS 27 available in Ireland?
Yes. iOS 27 is available for compatible iPhones in Ireland as a free software update.
The main regional difference to keep in mind is Siri AI. At launch, Siri AI isn’t available on iOS in Ireland because the feature isn’t initially being offered on iPhone in the EU. Apple Intelligence itself supports English (Ireland) for a number of features, but availability varies depending on the specific feature, device and language settings.
How do I know if my iPhone can update to iOS 27?
The easiest way is to check your iPhone model against the compatibility list above. In short, if you have an iPhone 11 or newer, or an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer, your device supports iOS 27.
To check for the update on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If iOS 27 is available for your device, you’ll be able to download and install it from there. 🙌
iOS 27 shows keeping your iPhone for longer is possible
iOS 27 is welcome news for plenty of iPhone owners. Apple hasn’t dropped any of last year’s supported models, meaning phones dating back to the iPhone 11 can still run the latest version of iOS.
