Apple Pencil and Supported iPad Models
Here is the complete list that will help you choose the right Apple Pencil for your Apple tablet.
Apple Pencil USB-C
The Apple Pencil USB-C, the latest digital pencil introduced by Apple in October 2023, is compatible with the following iPad models:
- iPad (10th generation)
- iPad mini (6th generation)
- iPad Air (4th generation and later models)
- 11-inch iPad Pro (all generations)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later models)
Apple Pencil (2nd generation)
The Apple Pencil (2nd generation) is the right choice to pair with the following iPads that support charging through magnetic attachment:
- iPad mini (6th generation)
- iPad Air (4th generation and later models)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later models)
- 11-inch iPad Pro (all generations)
Apple Pencil (1st generation)
The Apple Pencil (1st generation), which connects via Lightning connector, pairs with the following iPad models:
- iPad mini (5th generation)
- iPad (6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th generation)
- iPad (10th generation)
- iPad Air (3rd generation)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generation)
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro
- 9.7-inch iPad Pro
- For iPad 10th generation, an appropriate USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter is required to pair and charge the 1st generation Apple Pencil.
